The Four Horsemen are formed. The charter members are Ric Flair, Arn, Ole Anderson and Tully Blanchard. At this time they are managed by future WCW commissioner James J. Dillon. The Horsemen would go on to include wrestlers the likes of Lex Luger, Barry Windham and Brian Pillman in their ranks.

April 22-23 Arn and Tully Blanchard loose to Sting and Lex Luger in the final round of the 3rd Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament

A hotel brawl between Arn and Sid Vicious results in Arn suffering approximately 20 stab wounds and 4 puncture wounds suffered by sid

A Monday Nitro attack by members of the nWo leaves Arn with a spine injury that eventually puts him out of the sport.

Sept 1997
Two weeks prior to the annual Fall Brawl War Games Pay-Per-View Arn, standing in the ring along side his best friend Ric Flair, announces that he is hanging up his boots for good. His last official act as a Horsemen is to give his nickname and spot to Curt Hennig.
