Hi there, after reading all of the current listed help sites and seeing the problems that everone else was having just like me, i decided to create my own help page with screen cuts to show how i got it working just recently. Again, this is for Qbik Wingate 2.1d for Windows95 and ICQ ver98a.

Computer layout
Windows95 w/ Wingate 2.1d running
Windows95 client station with ICQ ver 98a running w/ previously installed dial out ability

Wingate 2.1d Configuration Requirements
**This is written assuming you already have your wingate working prior to viewing this document**
first wingate step

Select (or create) under the services category a UDP Mapping Service.

second wingate step Under the "General" tab.
Make sure that the box marked "Accept connections on port" is checked, and the port number reads 3333

Under default mapping, check the "enable default mapping to" box and enter where it says "server" icq.mirabilis.com on port 4000

If you care to know what you just accomplished, this tells wingate that you want your client machines to reach the server on port 3333 and go straight out to the servers at icq.mirabilis.com on their port 4000.

From here, i'll let you copy the check box settings. It really is fairly straight forward once you get the general tab set.

From here, we need to either modify or add a mapping.

You can modify your location and user tabs to fit your needs, i have none other than the Everyone choice.

You need a small session time out, but it won't affect you in any way other than keeping your gateway manager clean. In the next step, you need to remember that you need to grant access to this service to any user who wants to be able to use ICQ through Wingate.

I have everyone with unrestricted access here, but i have only two other users here at home that go through, some modifications may need to be made from system to system.

ICQ Program setup

Go through the I am behind a firewall....Be sure to uncheck the Launch at startup check box. Go to Firewall Settings.

I had both Socks5 and Socks4 working at different times, but socks4 seems to be more reliable for this setup process. Do NOT check the server time out check box.

Type in the IP Address of your Windows95 Wingate machine where it asks for SOCKS4 HOST and keep the default 1080 for the SOCKS4 PORT number. ** Unless you have purposefully changed this number, then put in the port number you have customed for your system**
Below in UDP PORT ALLOCATION you will want to check the Use a mapped Port on a Proxy and fill in again the IP Address for your wingate machine. For the proxy server port, we want to put in 3333 again.

this should be the result if you've configured everything correctly. If you have any other questions, please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] and i'll try and help you out as best i can.
