How do children get their hands on drugs and whose fault is it?

A 12-year-old boy has been jailed for 2 years after being caught dealing drugs. Undercover detectives stopped the boy whilst walking down a London street. The boy struggled and tried to get away. When they searched the boy they found sweets in one pocket and 1000 cash in the other with also 18 rocks of Crack and 3 wraps of Cocaine.

Later on in the investigation the police searched the boy's friends house and they found a small amount of Cannabis and a large quantity of Crack and also a sum of 1600 in cash.
The baby-faced boy attended the Inner London Crown Court to hear his sentence of 2 years imprisonment.

Judge Campbell said, " Any sentence that might be looked on as an encouragement to very, very young defendants to deal in drugs or encourage older and unscrupulous dealers to make use of very young persons as a tool in their trade, would cause complete havoc. There can be no other sentence other that a substantial sentence of imprisonment."

As the boy was dragged for the Crown Court he kicked and screamed and yelled, "I want my mummy, I want my mummy." He fell to the floor so court officials had to carry him out. Judge Campbell was reduced to tears for the young boy who cannot be named for legal reasons.
The young boy's mother commented after the hearing and said, "My son started to mix with the unsavoury underworld at a club and was led astray, he is only a little boy!"
