Telling and Believing Lies Brethren, it is a very serious sin to make up lies against others. But what you may not know, is it is equally as sinful to 'believe a lie' as it is to compose the original lie. Gossip is extremely vile occupation, for when any of us wrongly accuse and slander someone behind their back, it is the same as doing it in front of them. No difference. For all lies and false accusations hurt and have effects on us, and affect those that hear them. It is deceitful, so we have to watch what we say about others, and guard against passing on untruths. For even if we believe a lie spoken against someone, we shall be held accountable by the Lord, because He hears all things and knows all hearts and actions. Eve might have first believed the devils lie, about the LORD. But when she passed this lying untruth on to Adam, Adam when he believed it, was just as guilty as Eve. For just as Adam first acted upon the lie, Eve became equally guilty when she took the same fruit of good and BAD knowledge. No difference. So whether we make a lie, or believe the devils lies, or believe liars lies, it makes no difference. We have to watch out what we believe, and we are not to take in accussations against someone unless they can be verified. We have to guard our hearts from believeing false doctrine, lies, false gossip, etc. etc... Ha, for let me give you just one example, when was alone in Fiji as a missionary. The American brethren were suppose to be there for me to JOIN, but they left after only two weeks because they weren't missionaries and didn;t have faith and didn't like the Fijians, and hence stayed in a hotel room until there money ran out, and then fled back to the States. Me, I arrived penniless, and so just asked around at the bus station in Suva, until a paperboy offerred a place for me for the night, and then a week until I found a new home. I meet a grandmother who needed me help in fixing up her apartment, and so for food and lodging I stayed with her while there. She was a sweet-heart. But she took care of two younger granddaughters of hers. One 19, the other 16. I didn't make passes at either the whole time, but the older one, tried to seduce me, and when I reframed, she accused me privately to as visiting uncle. He looked at me vilely when I entered but said nothing, for the older daughter lied and accused me of molesting her 16 year old sister. Not so..... Yet that night after returning from practice with the Fijian national basketball team, the grandmother said I should quickly go to the hospital as the older daughter went to the EMERGENCY ROOM. I hurried there, but found her sedated in the Emergency Ward along side her Uncle, who had also at the same time been treated for severe stomach cramps. But they hadn't eaten the same food, they didn't share any meals, only talked together. The oldest daughter had simply lied about me to him, he believed it and then left, trying to figure out how he would get back at me. So food hadn't poisoned them nor given them this serious condition. One told a LIE and the other believed the Lie.... and recovering in the emergency ward, they both knew that was there sin. They both apologised even in the pain they were still going through. There you be brethren, don;t just NOT LIE, but also don't believe a LIE, both actions can have dire consequences to your health. We just have to discourage lying about one another and believing lies about one another. We have to avoid being shallow and superificial. For if we are to become intimate...we have to go DEEP, and know all things if we are to become ONE.... and being HONEST with each other and up front and not gossipping or backbiting or lying about one another.
