Friday, April 9 2004, Good Friday

Slept in today, then went to the A&E, think I'm, pretty proficient with the UK's vacuum-like tubes they use for blood taking now. After work went into town, was actually quite busy. Is town shut on Good friday in NZ? I forget. Went looking for a 256MB SD card, all insanely expensive, might even get one sent from NZ, think it would be cheaper, or maybe ebay. It was a great day so Marko and I had walked into town and on our way back we stopped off at a huge open field in town called 'Parker's Piece' to play some soccer (sorry... football) with some randoms, was great. Really funny hearing english accents calling for the ball and being all soccerish...

Not much to say today really, except I'll put up some pics from my Saturday trip to London. Today I got to do some chest compressions to no avail in Resuscitation, and did some more lines and tried to do a haematoma block into an organised haematoma, hard... but it kinda worked eventually, and afterwards I reduced a colles fracture of the wrist (not enough tho, needed to be redone but hey). Oh, put up a small video of a skater in London too, get it here. I just went for a swim at the Frank Lee Centre here on the hospital site, was really good, gonna start going more now I've joined the centre.

[ADDED] An excerpt from an email I wrote about the trip to London: "... Spent today in London, went to British Museum (which had some Iranian dancing and stuff going on for some festival), then to Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery, spent a while looking at one painting of Perseus turning bad guys to stone with Gorgon's head. Then went to the Thames, saw the London Eye (and the queue, amazing...), Houses of Parliament/Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, then headed over to 'Queen's Walk', a stretch by the side of the Thames, where I found a place which looked strangely familiar!! I had walked into the London level off Tony Hawk 4! Ok, stop laughing but it was amazingly similar, heaps of skaters too, so I took a couple of vids of them, mostly screwing up... but it was quite weird. Then down to the Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, which had a rather exorbitant entry fee but I might go back later. Then across the Millenium bridge to St Pauls Cathedral, MASSIVE cathedral, very impressive. By this time, my feet were dying so I made my way back to King's Cross and got the train back to Cambridge, stopping to take a picture of 'Platform 9 & 3/4' (a sign on a brick wall nearby to Platform 9B where I got the train). Anyways, tired now, I'll head back there next week to meet Adam there..."

Here are some pics from my little sojourn in London:
