Lost Ancestors: parents of Emma Neuber KUHNS or Emma KUNTZ
of Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Emma NEUBER was the only daughter of
Franz or Frank NEUBER and Karoline or Caroline KLAWITTER of Milwaukee.

Emma Neuber KUHNS or KUNTZ, 1869-1933, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The 1870 Census and 1870-1873 Milwaukee City Directory lists the family as living at 692 8th Street. The 1875 Milwaukee City Directory shows them moving to 698 5th Street (just south of Wisconsin Avenue). Frank NEUBER died on 29 Nov., 1876; family memories say Caroline raised Emma in the 5th Street house, and place Caroline Klawitter NEUBER there as late as early in the 20th Century.

Did Caroline Klawitter NEUBER ever remarry? When and where did she die? Did she have any other children? No one knows.

Emma's parents: Father = Frank or Franz NEUBER, (born in Naumburg, Saxony, Germany 8 Nov 1847), son of Gottfried NEUBER and Karoline or Caroline, died on 29 Nov., 1876 in Milwaukee.

Mother = Caroline KLAWITTER was born in about 1847, in Prussia, Germany, possibly "in the cold months", and married Franz NEUBER, before 1869. She was listed as 23 years old in the 1870 Milwaukee census. From Emma's marriage, it is unclear if KLAWITTER is her maiden name or her 2nd married name, in which case she would have remarried between 1876 and 1888.

Emma NEUBER was born in Milwaukee on 21 March, 1869, and died on 1 March, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She married John KUHNS or KUNTZ (born 18 May, 1866 in Milwaukee, died 1948, in Wauwatosa, Milwaukee County) in Milwaukee on her birthday, 21 March, in 1888.
She and John were the parents of Carrie KUNTZ, Mamie KUNTZ, Emily KUNTZ, Erma KUNTZ, Eugene KUHNS, and my grandfather, George KUHNS. They are both buried in Union Cemetery, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
