We boarded a whale watching boat and were whisked 25 miles out to sea. We passed sea otters floating by, a beautiful red masted ship and awesome Maine cliffs. When we got to the whales, we were amazed at the number in the area! The tale above is from a female who was swimming with her young calf. They would come very close to our boat and would surface and dive together. All together we spotted 9 different whales. Dave and I got very ill on the trip to see the whales, but it was well worth it for this fantastic shot. Nikki ran around the boat like she lived on it and we were ready to disown her when we disembarked. The ocean water looked like spun glass and the waves were only 2-4 feet, but we were sick before we left the dock. The temperature was very cold, and this was the last week in July. It was only about 45 degrees 25 miles out. If you go, and you should, dress warm and take gloves and a hat. Don't use binoculars if you are prone to motion sickness!
