FORT DESOTO STATE PARK, FLORIDA

Fort Desoto State Park Campground, south of St. Petersburg on Mullet Key. This was Dian's favorite spot in Florida. Our campsite was rich with wildlife, including squirrels, various birds, and raccoons. We spotted dolphins in the Bay from our campsite. Dave went wading and unearthed many huge shells. He put them all back since the occupant was still alive and present. One was big enough to fill up the RV kitchen sink. This island campground has beautifully maintained bike paths to the public beaches and fishing wharfs. The showers were immaculate and had plenty of hot water and were located throughout the campground. The park also had washers and dryers. No reservations are taken except in person, though we had no trouble getting a spot in mid July. |
