25/3/01: I decided that maybe i should write in my latest news box, so that is what i am doing. Today was a race at Glendale (site of 1999 World Champs selction trial), and one of the most phsically demanding granite maps in the ACT. I felt tired from a big week of training so didn't run as well as would have liked, gaining 3rd behind 2 other Canberra Cockatoos Tristram Miller and Tom Quayle.
1/4/01: Today we were in Victoria for an Olympic Format event at Nerrina, Ballarat (site of the 1994 World Cup races). A 3 loop race and starting in pairs. I got of to a good start catching Rob Walter at the second control. The two of us procedded to fight it out for the next two loops. On the third loop though we took differing route choices and Rob got in front of me. After a big week of training my legs were pretty tired and i couldn't catch him again, but i had still done enough for 2nd place. A pleasing result with Easter less than 2 weeks away.
5/4/01: I took part in a VO2 test today as part of my scholarship with ACTAS. Received a level of 75.9 a result that i was quite happy with.
08/4/01: Travelled to Melbourne from Canberra this evening in preparation for Easter, will spend about 3 days here before moving up to Daylesford.
11-14/4/01: Easter 3 Days, after a shocker on Day 1 in the short i thought my chances were gone, coming in with an 8th place and more then 3.5 mins behind Rob the current leader. Day 2 was a bit better a 5th place over the physically hard 16.8km race, i was really happy with this result as i wasn't sure if my legs had it in them. Day 3 the chasing start and just what i wanted i was 4th out of the rank with 1st being the leader. After a messy 1st control i as caught by Eric Morrisl, we got together and soon caught Dave Shepard who had started in front of both of us. The 3 of us had a battle around the rest of the course for 3rd spot, in the end it was probably my young legs which got me over the line coming in for my best ever senior result. Shepard came in for 4th and Morris for 5th. (Full Results click here)
