| Who Am I?? |
| I was born in Sydney on 19th January 1981, and lived there until i was 8. In 1989 my mother and i got up and moved to Canberra and it was here that I started to show some promise as a runner, gaining a 4th place at the ACT Cross Country Championships in 1990, in the under 10's. At the start of 1992 we got up and moved again this time to Launceston, where I would attend Launceston Church Grammar School for the next 7 years. It was at Grammar that i learnt to orienteer, and after only two years in the sport I was the Tasmanian Champion in Under 15's. That same year i attented my first Australian Championships in Creswick Victoria where I gained a 6th place in the Under 15's. For the next few years my orienteering stayed at pretty much the same level, I could win the Tassie Championships, but couldn't get into the places at any national events. In 1998, on the advice of Jim Russell (the then National Junior Coach) I competed in Series 1 and 3 of the Qantas National Orienteering League, out of the 4 races i ended up with 4 last places, but it was to improve my orienteering immensely. By Series 1 the following year, 1999, i had gained a 4th place at the WOC trial held at Non-Smokers Flat, Canberra and it was to be the start of a year that I won 8 out of the 9 National junior races that i competed in. At the Easter 3 Days in Tasmania i placed 2nd after leading for the first two days, but that was good enough and i was selected for my first JWOC team to be held in Varna, Bulgaria in July that year. My results at this JWOC were ok considering it was my first major international race. I gained 79th place in the Classic race and 17th in the B Final short race after missing the A Final by 10 odd secs. 2000 was to be a good year nationally with the first race being the Eureka Challenge held in March in the famous Victorian Goldmining. A mass start 2 lap race, i think that i surprised quite a few by leading through the first lap, my second lap was not quite as good technically but it was enough to secure me 3rd place my best result yet in the Elite class. I am still writing the rest sorry comeback soon |
