One Wild Ride

[VERSE 1]

She was walking home, from high school
I pulled up beside her, acting cool
Did my best James Dean, asked if she’d like a ride
She said Momma always told me not to do things like this
But Momma ain’t thinking about the fun I might miss
And she winked at me, as she hopped inside

[??? LIFT?]

On a country road, with the windows down, we were doing 95
It seemed like minutes, but it had been three hours, when we pulled into her drive
With a trembling hand, she held my arm, and slowly shook her head
And in hurried breaths, she smiled at me and said….

[CHORUS]

Baby, that was one wild ride
From the moment I jumped in
Sure been nice here by your side
Wish we could do it all again
I guess it’s time for me to go
I sure hate to say goodbye
And I just want you to know
Baby, that was one wild ride

[VERSE 2]

We married in college, had a child the next year
All of a sudden life jumped in high gear
A hundred miles an hour, with no end in sight
We took a few wrong turns, hit our share of dead ends
Backed right up and started over again
There were bumps in the road, but we held on tight

[??? LIFT?]

When the cancer took over, the doctor said he'd done all he could do
It seemed like minutes, but it had been 30 years, and the moments left were few
With a trembling hand, she held my arm, and slowly raised her head
And in her dying breaths, she smiled at me and said…..

[CHORUS]

Baby, that was one wild ride
From the moment I jumped in
Sure been nice here by your side
Wish we could do it all again
I guess it’s time for me to go
I sure hate to say goodbye
And I just want you to know
Baby, that was one wild ride
