Plain Jane & Average Joe

A Father’s Prayer

[VERSE 1]

Every Friday night at the bowling lane

You can find Joe, and his wife Jane

No nine to five, no PTA

It’s the only time they can get away

It ain’t much, but it’s all they know

Cause she’s just a plain Jane, and he’s an average Joe

[VERSE 2]

Joe works a shift at the factory

He’s got the same worries as you and me

Got mouths to feed, and bills to pay

What he earns in a week is gone in a day

Jane helps out at the typing pool

But it’s all she can do, to get the kids off to school

[CHORUS]

So raise a glass, and let’s all toast, to those who deserve it most

They don’t have money, they don’t have fame

But you’ll probably recognize the name

It’s a simple fact, it’s the simple folk, that make this country go

So here’s to plain Jane, and average Joe

[VERSE 3]

He’s a baseball dad, she’s a girl scout mom

She’s a chaperone at the high school prom

They drive a Chevrolet mini van

Take a summer trip out to Disneyland

They don’t have a lot, but it ain’t that bad

Cause it’s hard to miss, what you’re never had

[BRIDGE]

And every night as Jane combs her hair

Joe puts the kids to bed with a prayer

Somewhere deep inside he knows

The Lord takes care of plain Janes, and average Joes

[REPEAT CHORUS]
