HOW WORD GETS AROUND

[VERSE 1]
Janey was a teacher at the local Junior High
Bill pumped gas, was the apple of her eye
One day Billy gave her a ring
And they both agreed that they wouldn’t say a thing
But you know how it is when you’re in a small town
And sometimes it’s funny how word gets around
[VERSE 2]
Billy told his mama not to tell no one
But there ain’t no secrets down at Shirley’s salon
Mama told Shirley, Shirley told Jenny Long
And that’s where the story started going all wrong
Shirley should have known to talk a little higher
Cause you can’t hear a word when your head’s in the
dryer
[CHORUS]
There’s a buzz in the air,
something’s going down
It’s another big story in
another small town
When the lips get to
flappin’ the ears hit the ground
Good Lord ain’t it funny how
word gets around
[VERSE 3]
Jenny told Mr. Jones not to tell a soul
But the years at the factory had finally taken toll
Jenny didn’t know he had one good ear
So it’s hard to say what he really did hear
He told his wife, she hit the phone
Called all her friends til her voice was gone
Early next morning at the hardware store
Folks gathered roun’ just to hear a little more
He said this and she said that
Nobody sure where the truth was at
Half the town wondering when the teacher’s gettin’
married
The other half wondering where the preacher’s
getting’ buried
[REPEAT CHORUS]
