[VERSE 1]
Esop was a local redneck, barely five foot tall
You could find him just about every night at Lucky's Pool Hall
Spinning yarns and telling tales, preachin' by the tables
Folks would come from miles around to hear ole Esop's fables
[VERSE 2]
Esop said if you ain't dead, you're on your way to dying
If you ain't been married seven times, then you ain't really trying
The secret of true love is to sleep in a small bed
Well, I don't know if I agree, but that's what Esop said
[CHORUS]
Esop was a regular at Lucky's Pool Hall
He was a modern age, country sage
Ole Esop knew it all
When the sun went down, we'd all gather roun' the pool tables
Just to hear a bit of redneck wit from one of Esop's fables
[VERSE 3]
Esop said, if you're gonna be late, you're better off not phonin'
Why should a man get yelled at twice, that night and in the mornin'
If you got more kids than you do beds, and there ain't no room inside
Then you better trade your single in for a brand new double wide
[REPEAT CHORUS]
[VERSE 4]
Most thought he was a little off, an old man talkin' loud
They said he'd say bout anything if he knew he had a crowd
Me, I think bout half was true, the other half was foolin'
But I swear I learned more from Esop than all my years of schoolin'
[REPEAT CHORUS]
