Description

Chojun Miyagi created these forms for teaching School Children. They were developed around 1944 during world war II. The war was actively occuring on Okinawa, which also left traces of it in Gekisai Kata. In the early versions the first Tzuki were carried out much higher than ones own jodan. This was to symbolize an (american) opponent who was mush taller than the performer of the kata. The Gekisai katas introduces the student to basic Goju-Ryu techniques of rapid execution, tension and relaxation between moves.
