Legend
It is named after Master Chinto who was a Chinese martial artist. In the 1600's he was shipwrecked on Okinawa. The powers-that-were in China at the time had told the people (for political reasons) that Okinawa was inhabited by cannibals. Master Chinto hid in the caves coming out at night to steal food. The local villagers either came to see him in peace or one of their samurai (Matsumura) was dispatched to deal with him. Chinto either defeated and befriended Matsumura or simply befriended the villagers. Chinto demonstrated his art and forms to the Okinawan who passed it on down the years. This knowledge has been passed down for hundreds of years and is now embodied in the form known as Chinto.
