Wilsford & Woodford 18.11.1788 Ref. 5 - 6 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the Name of God Amen I Henry Self of Heale Farm in the parish of Woodford in the County of Wilts Yeoman being of sound & perfect Mind Memory and Understanding (God be praised for the same) by considering the Uncertainty of this Life do make publish & declare this to be my last Will & Testament in manner following (that is to say) First I will & direct that all my just Debts and funeral Expenses be paid & discharged ALSO I do give & bequeath unto my loving Wife Ann Self the Sum of four hundred Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid unto her in Six Months after my Decease I also do give and bequeath unto my said Wife Ann the Annuity that will be due unto her after my Death from the Spread Eagle Annuity Society Together with such of my household Goods & Furniture as my Trustees hereinafter named shall order & direct & think proper to give her ALSO I do give & bequeath unto my Son John Self all my Right & Property in a certain Note of Hand for Eight Hundred Pounds & Interest now in my Possession & for which said Sum my said Son John Self now receives the Interest as it becomes due thereon & I likewise give to my said Son John Self the said Note & do hereby direct my Executors hereinafter named to indorse or assign over the same to him for his sole Use & Benefit immediately after my Decease ALSO I do give & bequeath unto my Sons James Self Henry Self and my sd Son John Self the principal Sum of Ten pounds apiece And to my Daughters Mary Wife of Thomas Waters & Ann the Wife of John Waters I give the like sum of Ten pounds apiece To be paid within Six Months after my Decease to each of them my said Sons and Daughters respectively ALSO I do give and bequeath unto my said Trustees hereinafter named the Sum of five Guineas apiece I also give unto those poor People of the parish of Woodford who shall at the time of my Decease have large Families & be the most necessitous the Sum of Ten Pounds to be distributed amongst them in such Proportions as my said Trustees shall judge most proper ALSO All the Rest and Residue of my Goods & Chattels Rights and Credits of what kind or nature soever & wheresoever not hereby otherwise disposed of after my just Debts Legacies & funeral Expenses are paid & discharged I do give unto my good Friend Thomas Blake of Wishford in the County of Wilts Gentleman my said Son James Self & the said Thomas Waters UPON TRUST for the Use & Benefit of my Sons Robert Self & Philip Self And in Case either of my said Sons Robert Self & Philip Self shall happen to die before his Attainment to the Age of one & twenty Years then I will & direct that the Rest & Residue of my Goods & Chattels Rights & Credits shall be paid to the Survivor of them my said Sons Robert Self & Philip Self on condition that he pays unto each of my sd Sons James Self Henry Self & John Self & my said Daughters Mary Waters & Ann Waters the Sum of Twenty Pounds each immediately after the Death of such of my said Sons Robert Self & Philip Self as shall first die And in Case both of them my said Sons Robert Self & Philip Self shall happen to die before their Attainment to the Age of One & Twenty Years Then I will and direct that the Rest and Residue of my Goods and Chattels Rights and Credits shall be paid unto the Survivors or Survivor of all my said Children as shall then be living to be equally divided between or amongst them if more than one The issue of either of my Children to be esteemed as a living or Surviving Child & to receive its respective Parents Share in Case such Parent be dead in as full & ample a manner as such Parent would have been entitled if then living in all Cases throughout my Will as shall be then living to be equally divided between or amongst them if more than one AND I do hereby Will order & direct that the said Thomas Blake my said Son James Self & the said Thomas Waters and the Survivors or Survivor of them shall from time to time place my Monies out at Interest during the Minority of my said Sons Robert Self and Philip Self (but no longer) And call the same in again as they shall see Occasion to and for the Uses aforesaid AND in Case any of my Monies now out at Interest or hereby to be placed out at Interest shall happen to be lost or become desperate Then I do will and direct that such Loss or Losses shall be borne and sustained by my said Sons Robert Self & Philip Self only and not by my said Trustees or either of them And that they my said Trustees or either of them shall not be answerable for the Act or Receipt of the other of them but each for his own Act or Receipt only and for no more than shall come to their Hands respectively and be actually and bona fide received by them AND I do hereby request and desire that my Business at Heale Farm may be carried on for the Benefit of my said Sons Robert Self and Philip Self or the survivor of them AND that my said loving Wife if she continues my Widow may live there to assist in managing the Business for the Benefit of my said Sons Robert Self and Philip Self or the Survivor of them if the said Thomas Blake and my Son James Self and the said Thomas Waters shall approve thereof AND I do hereby nominate and appoint the said Thomas Blake my said Son James Self and my said Son-in-law Thomas Waters joint Executors in Trust of this my Will to and for the Uses aforesaid hereby revoking all former Wills by me made IN WITNESS whereof I the said Henry Self the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament contained in this and the annexed Sheet of Paper set my Hand to the first Sheet and my Hand and Seal to this last Sheet the Nineteenth Day of March in the twenty fifth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth And in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven Hundred Eighty and five Henry Self Signed sealed published and declared by the said Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our Names as Witnesses hereof
