Mr Shunpei Nishino is one of the senior Japanese luthiers, who is well-known and respected in Japan, but
unfortunately not internationally well-known. I was told that unlike
Kohno or Imai guitars, Nishino guitars are seldom exported to other countries because
the limited Nishino guitars production are just perfectly being absorbed among the Japanese
guitar lovers, leaving no space for the international market.
Mr. Nishino makes his guitar fully hand-made using all solid materials. Currently he's being assisted by his son. His guitars are noted for the clear and sweet tones, well-balanced, similar to those of Hausers. He starts his model from type 20 to type 80. Type 20, 30, 40 are made based on his original structures (modification from Hauser), however from type 50 to 80 are completely Hauser copies. |

This particular guitar is very light, it reminds me of old Spanish guitars. No
wonder it has some Spanish characters in the sound. The power is surprisingly
big enough. Since this is new, it requires some time to open the sound, especially the trebles
side, although the basses sound is already open and deep, but not too boomy.
The craftmanship and playability are one of the best. I never got tired playing with this guitar even for hours. What an enjoyable instrument to play and to see (personally, I really like the color of the spruce, not to mention the craftmanship). A friend of mine, the owner of Iwans Guitar Gallery, bought this lovely guitar for his own collection as soon as I introduced this to him. Now he's the first and the only Nishino guitar owner in his country, putting his name in the same list of other Nishino owners such as Mr.Kazumi Watanabe, the great Japanese jazz/classical guitarist, Mr. Tatsuo Tabei, Mario Suzuki, Sketch Except, Joan Sugita etc. Please also read comments from others about this Nishino 20 guitar. |
