A New Star
 

The hospital bed lay empty, as I stare out in thought
tears running down my cheeks, as I think of how you fought
But tonight the battles over, as I now sit here alone
thinking of the life we've had, and all the love you've shown

Tonight as the stars come out, a new one caught my eye
then the thought came over me, that made me sit and cry
When I reached the hospital, and I saw all the tears
then I realized that tonight, would be of my worst fears

You held my hand and told, please promise you'll try
as long as I'm in your memory, then I will never die
You gave that little smile of yours, your eyes began to close
then as if a miracle, I felt your spirit as it rose

I realize now that I should cry, but my heart is filled with love
remembering back to the life we had, and thank God above
Looking out the window, I now focus on that star
filled so much with content, just knowing where you are
