The Jedi Consular
Over the course of the next month, Corik began his training as a Jedi Consular. Master Quithar led him on a few diplomatic escapades, and he learned how to deal with all sorts of different people from the perspective of a Jedi.
Corik learned the ways of the Force “at lightning speed” as Master Quithar put it, for he was already lifting objects and moving them around in the air after his second week of training. It was all about focus, and being a very singularly focused individual, Corik had no problem with it. It wasn’t long before he could move objects of all sorts anywhere he wanted, as well as use the force to read minds, heal minor cuts and abrasions, and run a lightning speed.
Lightsaber training went moderately well. Corik received a green lightsaber, as was the custom for a Jedi Consular. Since Master Quithar had specialized in combat style IV, named Ataru, this was the style she taught to Corik.
“Form IV is all about using the force to move your body at lightning speeds. Keep yourself moving and finding new positions. When you are constantly moving, it makes you harder to hit and harder for the opponent to defend themselves. I always believed that in staying steady, your movements are much too predictable and you end up open to attack.”
Master Quithar went on to explain how Ataru uses acrobatics and sometimes daring movements to overcome an enemy. Though it leaves the Jedi vulnerable to attack, use of the Force for speed and physically impossible acrobatics can make the Jedi all but a blur to the opponent.
Corik listened carefully to her instruction, and soon began learning the style himself. The movements were a bit awkward at first, but he came to understand how to use the force to make his body feel weightless and move himself and the blade in quick and fluent motion.
Corik had still never mentioned his problems back on Topan. He barely thought of his friend Jethra. He didn’t want it to get in the way. Instead, he focused on clearing his mind of the past, for he was training to become a Jedi. He no longer yearned to avenge Jethra, for he was above that now. His life would forever be different
After some time, while Corik was brushing up on the history of the Republic and the Jedi Order, Master Quithar came into the archive and mentioned to him that the council wished to speak with Corik and himself. So he followed his teacher down the halls into the familiar chambers he had visited a few times before.
