The Four Machine Parts
Corik pulled out the four parts he had managed to obtain earlier in his journey: the power converter, engine coupling, charged crystal, and shield plating. He reached into belt pouch of wires, chips, and small parts and began constructing a small robot as he waited. Back on Topan he had learned some mechanics, and Master Edem had helped him learn some of these skills as well.
He awoke shortly after it was finished, and Corik told him what had happened. Master Edem said he would be alright, and was proud of Corik for not tolerating the evils of the Sith as the Jedi Council had.
“Why’d you and the other Jedi go along with Capula? Couldn’t he be defeated?” Corik asked.
“We were afraid of the consequences of his death, and frankly I still am. That Sith got the Republic into a mess, and all we could think of doing rationally was to concede to his will, or risk economic collapse and political uproar. But you took that risk, and for that I’m glad, despite what may come of this. He needed to be stopped. I just don’t know how we’ll prove that Deneg really was a Sith Lord without evidence, especially since it looks like we carried out an assasination.”
“Maybe this bot can help us” Corik said, pulling out the small machine from behind him. “He could download the video file from a computer terminal if it was recorded anywhere.” Master Edem nodded. They walked over to a small terminal with a screen on it and the tiny astro-droid plugged itself in. It surfed through video files throughout the entire complex, and stopped on the one of the maintenance room of level 3. “That’s it!” Corik shouted with excitement, and had the unit download it for evidence to the court.
And despite what Master Edem feared, there was little uproar. The Senate believed the story the Jedi told about President Capula because of the evidence, which was both shocking to the court and the people as a whole. Instead of shutting down Capula, new leadership was acquitted to members of the former resistance, under the supervision of the Jedi Council. The Council began to give Capula a less important but nevertheless beneficial role to the Republic. Huge detachments from the secret Capula military were sent to destroyed and attacked planets as medical and rebuilding aids rather than invasion forces. The Senate and Council worked to restore order, and within a short time the galaxy was brought under peace and control once again.
Corik lived the rest of his life through this time of peace and prosperity. The Jedi’s numbers grew, and true justice, order, and harmony was thus secured for the Republic in full like never before. Corik died after a hundred forty years of strong and valiant living to become one with the Force, living and dying more valiantly than he or any other could have ever imagined. He would go on to spend eternity with his friends as part of the Force.
