Left Side of the Riot
Corik listened to Master Jurix, and sprinted toward the crowd from the left side, all the while deflecting blaster bolts as they came at him. He was in the midst of them almost as quickly as his decision to move.
They weren’t the only ones there. Apparently some security forces on other levels of the building had heard the blaster fire and decided to engage. Brave souls, Corik thought, foolish, but brave. He was glad for their help though. They were drawing the attention and fire of a few men, giving Corik and Jurix the edge they needed.
Following orders apparently was a good thing, Master Jurix knew what he was doing. They had plenty of space being on opposite sides, and they each had close to the same number of opponents to deal with. Corik focused on deflecting blaster fire back at them, and would throw in a deadly swing if anyone came too close. He felt his fear melt away, and instead he felt bitterness towards his enemy. A bitterness that ended every time he cut his opponent down and rose again when his sites were set on another. Once their numbers were crippled, he leapt back a considerable distance and threw his saber into the crowd, cutting all but a few of the remnant down. The rest dropped their guns and held their hands over their heads.
Corik breathed a sigh. He had never felt such emotion before. He then took a deep breath, only to choke on it when he saw what he least expected. The Capula security forces (what was left of them) had come up to take the captured men back to the cell. Corik saw the symbol they had on their sleeves, the yellow ‘C’. He had remembered it from the destruction of his homeworld Topan not a few months before.
Corik couldn’t understand. The head of the Republic’s economy couldn’t possibly be behind the invasion force, could they? He must have been mistaken. He looked to Master Jurix for guidance, but his bewildered look only brought puzzlement to his master. That’s right Corik thought, he doesn’t know about my past.
I can’t give away my suspicions just yet. I need to think this over. Without another thought he headed back to the Temple with Master Jurix, though he did not follow his master to report on the outcome. He instead retired to the solitude of his room, and began putting the pieces together in his head.
