| 35 gallon DIY sump | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I decided to build a sump (large filter) to get all the ugly equipment out of the main show tank and to make the bi-weekly maintenance easier. It also increases the total water volume of the system. The sump is installed under the wet bar right beside the main tank. As you can see it turned out quite well and is a nice neat set-up. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I made this sump out of glass and incorporated two drip drawers and three baffles for bubble control. There's also a submerged shelf where water is forced to flow through two types of media. The baffles are all removable allowing for easy modifications if needed in the future. Water flows from the tank through a SOS overflow to the top of the sump and then down through the two drip trays. Once past the baffles and media tray the water enters the largest section that houses the Euro-Reef protien skimmer, Pro-Heat II, and a Mag 9.5 return pump. |

| UPDATE I added the ER outflow mod kit to reduce outflow noise and to allow me to make an even wetter skimmate, which I like. The large gate valve lets me adjust the internal water level to exactly where I want it. |
