| At the time when I was completing Cup Of Sand, the Grand Forks Gazette had on staff a reporter/photographer named Daniel Winters. Daniel had borrowed a large number of my old cassette tapes, and when Cup was finished he arranged to interview me. We agreed to meet at the Longhorn, one of the last of the great old saloons in this area, since burned down, like the Province and the Yale in years past. Daniel turned out to be not only a great interviewer, in that this was one of the only times I've ever been quoted verbatim by a reporter (usually they like to paraphrase you, put cliches in quotation marks), but also a great photographer.
