I had become fascinated with electricity when I was about six or seven years old. I had already found out that when you stuck your finger in a light socket it made your hair stand up and gave you quite a thrill, so I didnt need to try that experiment again.
Then one night when my parents were playing bridge with another couple I decided to find out what would happen if you took one piece of wire and stuck each end into a plug-in receptacle. I peeled the insulation off of each end with my Roy Rogers pocket knife, then stuck one end in the slot. I thought, well there aint much to thisthen I stuck the other end of the wire in the second slot.
I dont know if you have ever seen a great big ball of fire jump out of a wall, but let me tell you it is quite exciting! All the lights went out and that big ball of fire rolled right across the bridge table too. Playing cards went everywhere, chairs were overturned and bodies were all over the floor. I heard somebody say, My God, what was that?
I knew God didnt have anything to do with it and I figured I was in deep trouble. Taking advantage of the sudden darkness, I ran and hid under my bed hoping they wouldnt remember I had been playing around with that piece of wire.
Funny thing was, was they were so surprised to still be alive that they forgot all about punishing me! You might even say they were shocked! To this day Im still not sure that they realized I was the culprit and I sure never did confess!
