The first stage of engine dismantling was to remove the rocker boxes, the head, and then to pull off the cylinder barrels. The valves and valve springs were left in the head assembly so that the entire thing could be inspected by the head expert who would be doing that part of the rebuild. Also, care was taken by using a towel around the connecting rods so that when the barrels were pulled off the rods would not get nicked by banging into the engine cases. |
