Alpha program promotes safety

Dear Editor,

In David Roberts' column Thursday, he seemed to be lamenting the "good ol' days" of morality and sexual ignorance. I would like to remind him that education must relate to the social issues of the present, not the traditions of the past. The reality is that, moral questions aside, programs such as the one Alpha presented are necessary, since sex drives are much stronger than any diatrive you could muster, however morally-saturated it may be. Kids are going to take risks and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

One more thing, Dave — if Preacher Bob got a sore throat, would he call you to substitute?
