Let me say as a Christian AND an “open-minded” (translation: moderate, not liberal) person that I find his comments simplistic and backward. I am happy to share my faith and my beliefs with anyone. I do not back down.
On the other hand, I also recognize that other people may choose to believe something else, and I can respect that right, even if I don’t believe the same thing.
Cramming Christianity down another person’s throat completely takes away their ability to CHOOSE to follow Christ. You have to allow people to choose not to follow before following means anything.
Why are Biblical scriptures more fact than similar religious/historical accounts of the Buddha or Mohammed? Tibetan Monks and Muslims accept these accounts as true.
Why is his faith factual while theirs is fantasy? Why is Roberts’ view the privileged one?
Oh, I forgot, he’s the moral right — beyond reproach. Well I’m certainly glad he’s here to set us all straight. I know I’d hate to have to make these decisions all on my own.
I’m glad he has the time to write column after column to show me the way. I’d do it myself, but I’m too busy writing my DISSERTATION — that being the focus of my graduate education and all. I’m glad Roberts isn’t burdened by that kind of thing.
