Dear Editor:
I'm with Roberts: Holidays are a waste of time. We have a day of idleness to honor presidents Washington and Lincoln (used to give them a day a peace,) the soldiers who died in America's wars (originally, the end of World War I), the signing of the Declaration of Independence, working people and their ongoing struggle for the right to participate in democratic society, the "discovery" of the "new world" by a European freebooter who thought he was in India (an insult to history to say the least), the thanks offered by the European settlers in what is now the U.S. for having survived a year in the wilderness, the birth of a prophet in some middle-eastern religion (probably unconstitutional), and the beginning of the year (for Pete's sake, a day whose choice is entirely arbitrary). And now some people want to add a day of sloth to honor Martin Luther King Jr., who never even made any lasting contribution to American society but only made it respectable to five special privilege to undeserving people because of the color of their skin.
That IS what you meant to say, isn't it Mr. Roberts?
