More importantly, there is something else going on. Not only is Gore vainly dragging this election process out, but he’s also attempting to make Bush’s life a living hell. Gore knows he’s not going to win in the end, but he figures that if he can’t win, then he might as well do whatever is necessary to make Bush’s presidency as difficult as possible.
Gore’s latest mantra is “let’s count all the votes.” However, the intelligent reader knows that the votes have all been counted – multiple times. This whole contest is a farce. But sadly enough, there are people out there who have bought into the lie that the votes have not been counted. They are so blinded by dedication to their party that they close their eyes and minds to the blatant truth.
I sometimes look at the society in which we live and wonder how much more depraved can we get. A man spouts out lie after lie after lie, and yet he harnesses the popular vote of this nation by an ever-so-slim majority.
What causes roughly half of the voters to vote for a man who simply cannot be trusted? Isn’t trust and honesty important anymore? Can people not deduce that if a man spouts lies during his campaign, then he’s probably lying about his campaign promises?
We are in a society that loves lies. In my experience, I’ve learned that people despise the truth. They know that in accepting the truth, they have to change their philosophies and ways — and change is difficult. I’ve had countless encounters with liberals. Many would try to debate me on various points.
I have learned to not say much and just grant them whatever point they are trying to make. The reason for this is that I know the minute I open my mouth and lay down the truth, they will begin to hate me with such hatred that cannot be measured. Would they thank me for showing them the error of their ways? No. Instead, they loathe me for exposing the dark lies to which they have clung.
How much longer will my beacon of truth shine to this dark campus? I have offered nothing but the truth in so many of my previous columns, yet the hearts of many on this campus have been hardened to it.
I am through with this election. As far as I’m concerned, Bush won it fair and square. If Gore somehow pulls magic votes out of thin air and overturns this election, then in the minds of many he will forever be known as the man who stole an election. If an election can be stolen here in the U.S., then does the power really belong to the people? Furthermore, what next? We’ve already sunk to new lows in this nation during the eight long years of Slick Willy.
What can be done? We’ve already cast our vote, so what else can people do? Well, we can write or call our elected officials. Flood them with input. If we’ve thought our voice doesn’t count, surely this election will prove that it really does. It’s time we start caring about our nation and making our voices heard, lest we somehow lose that privilege too. Think about it.
