Let go of the ‘Tiger’s Tail’

The Conservative Critic is written by David Roberts, an aerospace engineering graduate student from Okmulgee.

I sat in disgusted amazement as I listened to friends tell me what was shown to the innocent, unsuspecting freshmen at the "Tiger by the Tail" presentation.

I cannot believe the new lows to which the OSU ALPHA program has sunk.

When I was a freshmen (1995, not 1955), the good folks behind the ALPHA program gave us goofy little get-to-know-ya games and presentations.

In my day so long ago, they taught us the appropriate way to wear a backpack. Now, it seems that they're teaching kids how to wear a condom.

I must admit that I was not at the actual presentation, but after hearing stories about it from people who were there, I could not stand it anymore. No sooner do parents leave their freshman sons and daughters, than some modernist wacko from the Let-Me-Control-the-Minds-of-the-Youth department begins to fill these kids' brains with mush.

As I understand it, this "Tiger by the Tail" group put on a skit about how homosexuality is okay and cool and totally normal.

The skit portrayed an office group with a bunch of homosexuals standing around and jibing a heterosexual. Of course, the moral of the skit was to accept homosexuals and tolerate them, etc.

That skit, quite frankly, was nothing but a load of cow poop. I'm not one to sit around and bash a homosexual, but my advice to the homosexual group is this — if you are so afraid of getting bashed, then either stop being a homosexual (ask famed songwriter Dennis Jernigan if you don't think this is possible) or don't tell anyone that you are.

Jeepers! I don't go around announcing, "I'm a heterosexual!" at the workplace. I would kindly appreciate it if the homosexuals would do likewise and respect the rest of the people on this planet who do not care or want to know about their sexual preferences.

They can respect us by keeping their whiny mouths shut. They are all about yelling, "What we do in the bedroom is our own business!" Then, keep it in the dadgum bedroom and don't let us (the rest of the world) know about it. Can I get a witness?

That skit was just one of the skits that sunk ALPHA to lower depths.

As I understand it, there was another skit in which they demonstrated how to put on a condom. I was instantly disgusted as I imagined some dude on stage flopping out his wang to perform the demonstration.

My sources, however, assured me that this was not the case, but I could hardly imagine how else they might have demonstrated this. Nevertheless, I was appalled at how soon they were teaching freshmen that having sex is just the norm for college life and "here, we'll show you how to do it properly."

Of course, I was also informed that they made brief mention of abstinence, but the majority of the focus was on using condoms and "safe sex."

This is just another load of steer dung that the designers of ALPHA could have left out. I do not, for the life of me, understand why the adult population is so afraid of teaching kids how to abstain from having sex until they're married.

There is so much of this "kids are gonna have sex, anyway" mentality that it is almost sickening.

We sit here and show kids how to use condoms and whatnot, and then we wonder why there are so many unwanted pregnancies and so much disease going around.

Condoms are a futile way to promote pleasure without responsibility or consequence.

If we want to have sex outside of marriage, then we had better be prepared for the responsibility of having children and the consequence of filthy diseases.

If we aren't ready for that stuff, then men need to keep our wangs in our pants and you women need to keep your legs closed.

It's just that simple. We need to start learning that abstinence is the only way to avoid diseases and pregnancies.

I know we all have hormones, but that doesn't give us an excuse to go out and act like beasts.

God gave us brains, so let's use them, people.

I'm sure that after filtering through the filthy language, there were some skits that had decent messages, but the skits mentioned above were totally unacceptable.

If I were a parent and found out only one day after I dropped off my child that the university was subjecting him or her to this kind of material, I would seriously talk to my son or daughter about the strong possibility of transferring to a school that did not promote this kind of propaganda.

But then again, that's just my opinion.

Maybe I'm just too old fashioned. Maybe, being a 22-year-old, I need to learn more about the younger generation since I'm obviously way out of touch. Or am I? Let's let go of "Tiger by the Tail" when we sit around and plan next year's ALPHA.

It's just a thought.
