Liberals lie about drugs

David Roberts
As promised in an earlier column, I am continuing a series in which I unleash a torrent of truth to this campus via the newspaper. The extreme left fascists have pulled the wool over your eyes, and it is my sworn duty to reveal the light of truth to you once and for all. I again warn you that the liberals will howl and wail in agony as my piercing ray of truth and perception melts away all of their lies, but you must stand firm and accept the truth. Do not be deceived by their responses. They've believed a lie, and they want to suck you down into the mire with them.

Today, I will discuss the falsehoods that liberals would have you believe concerning an issue that has come up out of nowhere during this campaign season. I'm talking about the issue of prescription drugs. First, however, I will explain why this is even an issue. Most of you, I'm sure are thinking, "I've never seen anything about prescription drugs, and now, suddenly, it's all over the news and is a major campaign issue. What the hey?"

The reason that this is even an issue is because the candidates, specifically Al Gore, are targeting older citizens. They know that older citizens come out in droves to vote. The candidates typically ignore us, the younger generation, because we just can't seem to find time to vote.
It boils down to the fact that Al Gore is making this an issue to buy votes from the elderly. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, he is promising to throw more money their way in turn for their votes. It is truly sad.

What is sadder, however, is the underlying theme here. Let me share a revelation with you. I have pondered the prescription drug issue for some time now. I've pondered the way the extreme left has tried to paint Republicans as heartless and cruel by claiming that they want to drain money from Medicare, Medicaid, etc. I've seen the liberal camp parade elderly folk across a stage with their sob story about how they can't afford drugs and so forth. However, I was not easily deceived.

Immediately, I thought, "Don't these elderly folks have family that can help them? If they can't afford these drugs, why can't their family pitch in and help pay? Why does it have to be the government's responsibility?" I know that if my parents were struggling with prescription drug payments or anything else, I would be first in line to help them. For Pete's sake, are "younger" people so selfish that they can't help their own parents? After all, these are the people who gave us life and raised us in such a dangerous world.

I guess I'm just a bit kooky. I guess I'm one of the few who think that it is the family, not the government, who should take care of the elderly. Well, I guess if we want to be selfish and let Uncle Sam take care of our parents rather than own up to the responsibility, then that is our own prerogative, right?

Granted, there may be families that literally can't help their elderly parents, but let's not make a huge issue out of something that is relatively minor. The Republican Party isn't going to just cut off programs to help the elderly.
But, perhaps, things aren't all doom and gloom, as the liberal fascists would have us believe. Think about it.
