Unfortunately, open-mindedness, along with many other traits, has been so skewed by this perverse society that it’s difficult to discern it’s true nature. Thankfully, I am here to shine the light of truth on this matter.
The cold truth is that when you hear people tout their ability to be “open-minded,” it’s really a euphemism for being spineless. No, the modern definition of “open-mindedness” is not the ability to see multiple perspectives or seek out truth — it is the unwillingness to stand up for or believe in anything.
Consider the hot topic of religion. The “open-minded” person will say, “Yes, I’ve studied all religions, and they worship the same god.”
Will he choose one to believe in? No, for doing so somehow decreases one’s level of open-mindedness. When it comes to spirituality, there is one absolute truth. We all have to make a choice. We either choose the one truth, or we choose lies. We cannot be wishy-washy or hide from this decision under the guise of being “open-minded.”
Imagine I came to you one day and said, “Two plus two equals 13.” You would think I was a blithering idiot. But what if I then said, “Well, I’m just being open-minded.” Would you still respect that? Probably not, because anyone who has an IQ higher than plant life knows the truth is two plus two equals four and nothing else.
Likewise, there is one truth in the spiritual realm. This revelation may not be popular, but then again, truth never has been.
There’s no shame in believing in the truth. Doing so shows that you’ve got backbone. Is it possible to have the ability to look at all sides of an issue — the true definition of open-mindedness — and still accept the truth? Absolutely.
Consider my own case. In my day, I’ve done some research on a myriad of spiritual beliefs. I’ve been quite interested in a variety of beliefs ranging from Islam to Paganism.
Despite what I read or heard about these other beliefs, they could not hold a candle to Christianity. There’s too much about Christianity that could not be simple coincidence (i.e. approximately 500 eyewitness accounts of Jesus Christ after his resurrection. Who else could rise from the dead but the Son of God?).
If these so-called “open-minded” folks were truly open-minded, they would’ve discovered the truth in Christianity. But, to them, being open-minded isn’t a search for the truth. It’s just a way to avoid having to change. Truth sometimes requires change, and that makes us uncomfortable.
The trait of open-mindedness applies to subjects other than religion. However, the same principle applies for all topics. It’s time for people to realize that they need to make solid decisions in life.
As the saying goes, he who stands for nothing will eventually fall for anything. Don’t be afraid to believe in something and stand up for it. That’s more respectable than trying to assuage your guilt by attributing your wishy-washy attitude to “open-mindedness.” Think about it.
