When I first started writing, I thought that surely the people would be grateful that, out of love, I was showing them the error of their ways.
I am like a sailor on a large ship, lowering the ladder of truth to all those drowning in the shark-infested sea of lies.
One would think that people would gladly take hold of the ladder while saying, “Thanks for showing us the truth so we don’t have to continually live in error!”
Sadly, the exact opposite is true. Not only did they refuse the ladder, but also they’ve lashed out saying, “Who is this guy who thinks that this ladder will help us? He’s got it backwards! This sea is really our friend!” Yet, in the meantime, bloodthirsty sharks swim just below them ready to rip them to shreds with lies.
Although this discovery is profound, it should not be surprising. After all, humans are proud creatures. Nothing hurts our pride more than to be told that we are wrong because it makes us feel stupid.
Yet, when someone truly is wrong, they need to be told so. Otherwise, they’ll continue in the same error and end up in destruction.
It’s like having snot up your nose. Sure, you would initially feel dumb if someone said, “Hey, there’s a booger in your nose,” but you would thank him later for telling you. Otherwise, you would’ve gone out and made a fool of yourself without even knowing.
I do not mean to imply that everyone on this campus is lost in lies. In fact, I’m quite certain that many people on this campus have discovered the truth and therefore agree with my writings.
However, I know that there are those out there who still cannot bring themselves to face the truth.
I know them by their letters to the editor and personal e-mail letters to me. They might as well stick a big sign to their foreheads that says, “I HATE TRUTH!”
Of course, some of them don’t even bother to read the content. It’s too bad that they read the titles of my columns and form a close-minded opinion without reading the truth within, but that might put them in a greater state of denial.
If you find yourself agreeing with my columns, then rest assured that you are in a vast majority. You may not think so because so often the loudest voices we hear are from the few who are drenched in lies. We mistakenly believe that large numbers are behind the loud voices, but that’s simply not true.
We, as the silent majority, must have the courage to spread the truth and to stand up to those loud few. Too often we’ve listened to their lies without reply because we’ve been afraid that they might label us as “bigots,” “haters,” and other vicious names. Yet, such name-calling is nothing but fiery rhetoric from hell.
We know it’s not true and besides, should we, the vast majority, even care what a few small divisive groups think about us? No.
Let’s face it. Everywhere the truth is spread, someone will always be there to oppose it.
We ought not let that dissuade us from shining the light of truth wherever we go.
Perhaps, we should flood the media with the truth to let them know that the loud lies of a few are unacceptable. It begins with us and it begins now.
