First, it sounds a bit like sour grapes. The Democrats know that hope is all but lost in Florida, so now they’ve resorted to whining and complaining about ballot legality and other such trifling issues. Granted, there are overseas ballots to come in, but most people suspect that the majority of those will go to Bush. The Democrats are losing Florida, so they’ve got left-wing radicals such as Jesse Jackson to fly in and raise a stink about it. Some people out there are just sore losers.
Secondly, it raises questions about the intelligence of the average liberal. The average liberal has admitted that the ballot might seem confusing to some. Yet, schoolteachers have taken the exact Palm Springs ballot and told their elementary school students to mark the proper candidate. In one school, a fourth-grade teacher asked his pupils to mark in red Bush’s punch-out dot, and mark in blue Gore’s punch-out dot. All 24 fourth-grades got it right.
Furthermore, a first-grade teacher made a similar request from her pupils, and 19 of 24 got it right. Now, I won’t pass judgment on the typical liberal’s brainpower, but these examples suggest that those who found the ballot confusing would rank among the lower percentile of first-graders.
On a different note, I wish for the sake of the Democratic Party that the Gore camp had kept a low profile in the vote recount ordeal. Why? Investigations have recently shown that people were not originally distraught over the ballot. Yet, new evidence shows that telemarketers for the Democratic Party called voters and told them to raise cane about it. Is this not disturbing to anyone?
Additionally, new examinations suggest that Democratic workers were involved in voter intimidation in a section of Florida known as “Little Haiti.” Also, Democratic workers in the Great Lake states were caught on video camera bribing the homeless with food, cigarette, and other goods while taking them to the polling booths. These unscrupulous actions clearly demonstrate voter fraud. Quite frankly, if I were a registered Democrat, I would be repulsed by this and seriously consider changing parties lest my reputation be tainted by such widespread allegations.
Finally, I’m amazed at how many people are willing to disregard the Constitution just for one election’s sake. People have called for a revote, court rulings and endless recounting. Yet, the Constitution allows for none of this. The Gore camp is treading on thin ice if it continues down its course. The Constitution was here long before we were, and it will remain long after we’re gone.
We can liken this election to the election of 1960. In that election, Nixon could have investigated lucid accounts of voter fraud, yet for the sake of the nation he did not. Instead, he bowed out gracefully. Let’s urge Gore to have the decency and patriotism to do likewise.
