SKWARDYA
One of the bands I play with is Skwardya. This means "shredding/tearing" in Cornish. We play rock/pop/folk rock in both Cornish and English.
Skwardya was set up by Matthew Clarke (pictured right) to try and give the Cornish Language a more modern musical presence. It started in 1999, and I joined in 2001.

We have played gigs recently at Redruth Rugby Club, for Carlton TV, The Crow in Redruth, The Dehwelans festival at Pendennis Castle in Falmouth, Hayle, Pan Celtic Cornish heats in Newquay, and Perranporth music day.

We will soon have a CD coming out with a mixture of songs recorded in the band's early phase as well as more recent tracks recorded in my kitchen.

The members of the band are:

* Dave Miller (guitar / bass)
* Brian Simmons (drums)
* Matthew Clarke (guitar / vocals)
Some of our favourite numbers we play are:

* Athelstan - a song in Cornish about the English king with a statue in Bodmin. He slaughtered thousands or Cornishmen... nice man eh!

* Enep Fettow El (Beautiful face of an angel) - a lovely dovey song. Words are not much cop... but it's great playing the blues in Cornish!
