Star Wars New Figures 7/7/01
Lando in Jabba Palace Guard Disquise. I liked the original release of the Lando Guard, but as time passed and Hasbro began to improve their sculpting and make the figures less muscular, I realized that the Lando needed an overhaul.  I also really like the use of vinyl in the the new figures for skirts, cloaks, jackets etc.  I really wanted to put that new look onto a Lando skiff.  Basically what I did was I shaved down the chest making it slimmer.  .  I then searched for the right vinyl skirt to use.  I ended up using the Final Duel Obi Wan Kenobi skirt.  I trimmed it to the shape I wanted., cut away all of the extra detailing on it and turned it around.  I created the buckle and cut away all of the jedi pouches on the belt.  I then had to find the right waist that would work with the legs, the skirt and the torso.  I don't remember which one I ended up using, but it took alot of trial and error.  After I slimmed down the torso I needed to build up the inside pin of the arms, so that the arms would form tightly to the torso.  Once I did this I put the new Lando head on.  Then I trimmed out the helmet.  I cut way the teeth by the helmet and cut down to the silver "vent" type thing by Lando's mouth.  After this was finished I gave the figure a darker reapaint, which I felt was more accurate to how he looked in the movie.
Chewbacca.  This is the new Mechanic Chewie that came out.  I really didn't like the paintjob on the figure and decided I wanted to do to this Chewie what I did with my Boush's Bounty Chewie.  It took a lot of tries to get the right color of the fur and it took many different shades and layers of paint, before I got it the way I liked it. I love the accuracy on the new figures and I hope that Hasbro continues this trend.
Sandtrooper. Very easy custom.  I basically want some diversity in my ranks of Sandtroopers and I always liked the Orange pauldron Sandroopers the most so here it is.  I simply cut the pauldron off of an old POTF Sandtrooper and placed it around the neck of the new Sandtrooper.  I first had to heat the pauldron up and bend it to the shape I wanted, then I ran it under cold water so it would hold it's place.  I will probalby do a new paint job and add some articulation in the future, but for now I'm happy with it.
