Here is Devin at around eight months. I recorded him playing around on the couch with an old full-size Samsung VHS Camcorder. I then connected the camera to my Snappy Video Capture device and captured a still shot off the video tape. This results in a much lower quality image because of the low resolution (about 320 by 240) of the video tape. I used the zoom feature of the camera to get in close because I knew I wouldn't be able to blow it up afterwards. Look at the arm of the couch just above the pillow and you can see distortion caused by tape stretch, low resolution, high compression, etc. Looks like water on the lens doesn't it...Well this was not a scanned photo so water didn't do it. Part of the blame can be attributed to the zoom lens. But that usually only causes some dilution of color in low light and a slightly out of focus image because when the image is magnified 8 times (my camera has actual zoom of 8X, no digital zoom capabilities, anti-jitter, etc. Did I tell you my camera was old?) the jitter is also magnified at the same rate.
