Zwingenberger Weinfest
We have no idea but it's a holiday which means no Work!
Summer Festival season is here and our first venture of the season was to the Alsbach Schloss. An old ruin Castle about 30 miles south of Kelkheim.
We started out, as always, walking along trails that meander through woods along the route to the Castle. This time however, we missed a turn and walked past the Castle. About 40 minutes down the trail we started to realize that we might be getting lost.
Just as panic was setting in, a nice German couple walked by and asked us for directions ?
We then realized that we were lost and headed in the direction of another Castle about 9KM away....Not Good!
Realizing our mistake we turned around and walked back to where we started only then to find the castle we were looking for...(Are we having fun yet?)
As we approached the Alsbach Schloss there was a festival on the Castle grounds with vendors selling handmade wares.
We toured the Castle and stumbled upon the Cavern Tavern, Quafed a Hefeweisen Bier and decided that it was time to head down the road (bergstrasse) in the direction of the Auersbach Schloss.
We never made it !
But we did find old (Alt) Zwingenberger, a small historic village with many half timbered buildings. Imagine our surprise when we realized that we had arrived during their annual Weinfest!
Not to be considered rude Americans, we joined the party sampling the regional wines and meeting other wine enthusiasts.
All in All a gutentag !
