Our search started in Baden-Baden.
We decided to relax after the drive from Kelkheim at a Bistro close to the hotel. We inquired there, where would be the best village to purchase a Cuckoo clock. After a few confused looks ( like why would you want one of those noisy things ) the owner of the establishment told us to go to a small village called Bibarach, that they would be less expensive and you would be able to tour the clock factory show rooms.
We left early the next morning to search for the perfect cuckoo clock. When we arrived in Bibarach not only was there no factory, they did not even have a clock store. When we asked around we were told to go to Triberg, which is on the Uhren Strasse or clock road.( Makes sense doesn't it ?? )
We were getting hungry (and a little frustrated ) so we decided to have lunch in France! Strassbourg, was only a few kilometers to the west. Having decided to go there, we set out on what we hoped was the correct course. The map not being all it could be. Finally we arrive at the French border only to find a traffic jam. It would seem everyone else that day had the same idea. We finally, after an hour of waiting, make it across the border, only to realize that not only do we have a hard time reading German signs, now we have to figure out the French traffic signs.
We drive around in circles trying to find a beautiful pedestrian area we have heard about and a place to park ( not so easy in Europe ). Not finding what we are looking for ( again ) we decided to park by an area with tour buses, thinking there must be something in the area.
We found a pedestrian area with several cafes and of all things an Irish Pub. After the worst beer and glass of wine we could have possibly ordered, we went in search of food. We had been told that the cuisine was worth note. They were not wrong. The food is a blend of German and French. Very rich and delicious.
After the wonderful lunch we started thinking maybe tomorrow would be soon enough to continue our search for the cuckoo clock. Thermal baths and cocktails are waiting for us in Baden-Baden. Till tomorrow... |
