Punched Card Hand Punch
If anyone can tell me what the key tops should have written on them please
Email me
I recently bought a Hand Punch for good old 80 column punched cards.
This is an ICL hand punch, Machine No. 1/7/43982. Made in India. I believe ICL (International Computers Limited) was created in 1968 or 1969 so this machine must have been made after that.
It needed a good clean and de-rust.

It was a pretty straight forward clean, and with a little oil it is now all working again. Heres a little tip: do not remove the punch blades from their mounting unless you absolutely have to, because they are incredibly hard to get back in!

The one thing I had to replace was some of the rubber key tops. You can see in the first pictures that some of the key tops had gone or turned to a sticky goo. I have replaced the rubber and now need to apply the lettering. In this picture you can see I have put some temporary stickers on the '1', '3' and '8' keys. The problem I still have is that I do not know what the lettering on the three top keys should be. They punch the '10' '11' and '0' holes in the punched card, so I would guess they might have 10 11 and 0 on them, but I don't know exactly how they should look. Maybe they also have several characters on them?

Anyone remember using these hand punches?
