| Here it is: the theme park that started the madness down in Florida. When Walt Disney decided to move his theme park idea down to Orlando he didn't know what he was about to start. In 1971 it opened with a few attractions like the classic Pirates of the Carribean and Jungle Cruise. Every year newer and more amazing attractions were opened. Soon Walt's vision turned into an amusement park resort turning Magic Kingdom into one of the four parks in the Walt Disney World Resort. Now on to the roller coasters: - Space Mountain This ride is in TommorrowLand and is completely indoors. Your trains are themed as rockets with 6 rows of 1 person. This is the only Space Mountain in all of the Disney parks to have dual tracks. I've been told that when it first opened it was much faster than the official speed of 28 mph. The ride has gotten a little rough over the years but still a classic. Rating: 7/10 - Big Thunder Mountain Railroad This amazingly themed mine train roller coaster is a great family coaster. It is in FrontierLand and you travel around, through, and over the town of Big Thunder. You will go through caves and over geysers and other great theming ideas. This is more of a family coaster than a thrill ride but it is still a lot of fun. Rating: 6/10 - Splash Mountain I know this isn't a roller coaster but it is still the most impressive ride in the park. Built in 1992 it was the follow-up of the 1989 version in Disneyland. This is the longest flume rides ever as it clocks in at over nine minutes. Featuring a 50 foot drop as the signiture part of the ride you will not get as wet as advertised. Unlike most other flumes the boats glide above the water and not into the water so the splash is not huge. Disney uses water cannons to shoot water onto the bridge. Rating: 9/10 - The Barnstormer at Goofy's Wiseacre Farm This is the kiddie coaster in the park, built in 1996 it is pretty good. It is featured in the Mickey's Toontown Fair section of the park and is a great ride for little thrill seekers. The line is usually short at night but if it is long skip it and ride one of the three peaks. |
