| EPCOT Center opened in 1982 as the second theme park in the Walt Disney World Resort. It's signature landmark is of course Spaceship Earth or better known as the "Giant Golf Ball." EPCOT is split into two sections: Future World and World Showcase. Future World is in the front of the park centered around Spaceship Earth while World Showcase is centered around Showcase Lagoon. The World Showcase features over eight countries each with it's own unique charm. Although there is only one true ride in the entire showcase it is still a place not to be missed. Future World is home to the park's star attraction, Test Track. Opened in 1997 it is the fastest and longest ride in Disney history reaching speeds of 65 mph. Also featured in Future World is the motion simulator Body Wars which is very similar to Star Tours over at Disney-MGM Studios. Now on to the thrills: - Test Track Although not really a hard core thrill attraction it is more of a fun ride that the entire family can enjoy. With help from GM Disney created an attraction that did something no one else ever did before. They let people be part of an actual car going through automobile tests. The real fun starts outside when the car ends up reaching 65 mph and speeding around high-banked turns. Rating: 9/10. - Maelstrom This is no way near being a thrill ride but it is the only real ride in World Showcase so it is worth mentioning. In the Norway section of the park you go into these boats themed to Viking ships. You travel through Norway until you come to these trolls who warn you to turn back. Your boat is turned around and you travel down a small drop backwards. You go through some more scenes when your boat is turned back forwards and you go down another small drop. Rating: 6/10. Also worth noting is Mission: Space which is being built where Horizons once was. It should be completed in 2003 and looks to be a great addition to EPCOT. |
