| The Disney-MGM Studios was the third park in the Orlando vacation resort. Built in 1989 it was designed to transform guests into the movies of old-time Hollywood. This is the most thrill-packed of the four parks and ironically also the smallest. The most happening section of the park is by far Sunset Boulevard. This is where the two biggest, fastest, and scariest attractions in all of Disney history are placed. The landmark of the park is supposed to be the Mickey Mouse water tower, but over the years the Chinese Theatre where The Great Movie Ride is has been called the center piece. Located directly in front of the main gates it is the first attraction you want to experience. Also other notables are Star Tours, Studios Backlot Tour featuring Catastrophe Canyon, Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, and Muppet Vision 3-D. On to the rides: - Rock 'n' Roller Coaster This is the first Disney ride in history to use an LIM Launch. Basically the theme is this: Aerosmith wants you to come to their concert at the Forum in LA but you're running a little late. Their manager brings you a super-fast limo to take you there. You board your 24 passenger "limos" and prepare to zip through LA like you never have before. As traffic is being cleared up be sure to look at the sign above the tunnel. All of a suddent he traffic light turns from red to green and you're launched from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds. The first inversion is a Cobra Roll. No launched coaster in the world is as smooth as this thing. While on the ride be sure to check out all the neon road signs along the track. The third and final inversion is a corkscrew. Although the ride's specs don't suggest a short ride it seems a little on the short side. Rating: 10/10 - Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Although not a roller coaster this is the best freefall ride of all time. Although not the tallest or fastest this ride packs a punch that others do not. The story goes like this: In 1939 five people were trapped in an elevator at the Hollywood Tower Hotel and sent into the Twilight Zone. Now it's your turn to check into the hotel. You board 22 passenger elevators and start to go up (all the seats use lap bars but there is one seat unofficially dubbed the "Suicide Seat" which only uses a seat belt. This is the best seat in the house.). After a while the door opens and you see those five people beckoning you to get off the elevator. The doors soon close and you start to go up again. The door opens and the elevator starts to move forward out of the shaft and into the passage way through to the Twilight Zone. The doors light up and you enter into the drop shaft. You drop a little and then rocket all the way up to the top. From this point you can see the entire park. You drop a little again and then travel 13 stories down through the shaft. You blast up and then the elevator starts shaking and then drops all the way down again. Although the ride is 199 feet tall the drop is only 130 feet. Even though it is still the scariest ride in the park. Rating: 10/10 |
