| Nov. 8, 2005 MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Dave Conley and Elsa Conrad today announced an event eight months in the making: the birth of their first child, Ben, at 8:28 am EST. "He was five weeks early, but we wouldn't have minded waiting," said the new father. That sentiment was echoed by Ben's mother, whose heroic exertions capped a three-day rollercoaster ride that began with a drive to Elliot Hospital on Nov. 6 when Elsa experienced minor discomfort. Expecting a routine checkup but receiving news that her water had indeed broken, the beleaguered pair abruptly accelerated their original Dec. 10 due date. Some vital statistics: * Young Ben weighed a relatively robust 5 pounds, 11.8 ounces at birth. Length: 21 inches. * Eyes: blue. Hair: strawberry blond, much admired by an endless parade of nurses. * Health: good, if a little jaundiced. He was slow to take milk, but is now feeding happily. |
