Restore MFC42.dll

 

1. Click Start and then Run. In the Open box, type in SFC and Click OK to open the System File Checker.

2. Select the second option; "Extract one file from installation disk."

3. Specify the system file to extract. In the text box, type in MFC42.DLL and then click the Start button in the System file Checker box.

4. In the Extract File window, verify the filename and the "restore from" and "save in" locations. You should restore from the CAB files located on your hard drive. The correct settings are shown below. Once you have verified that the settings are correct, click OK.

File name: MFC42.DLL

Restore from: C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS

Save file in: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM

5. If a Backup File window appears, click SKIP BACKUP.

6. Once the file has been extracted, click OK.

7. Reboot the computer. Verify that no errors appear when the system boots.

8. Open the software program in which the error messages were appearing. The program should now work again.
