"Mutter" by Rammstein
a review by Adam Hanley
oooooooo, dead baby!
Despite the fact that all the songs are in german and sound rather silly to the english ear, the music and style of Rammstein is rather good.
The best way I can find to describe their music is a mixture between Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails and Type O Negative, but in german. Since I like all those bands, Rammstein are now one of my favourites.
A lot of the tracks are heavy and have live samples, which makes them great crowd songs.

Track one: Mein Herz Brennt (my heart burns)
Great song with a nice intro and great string arrangements. The start of the song is nothing like the rest of the song (except some of the vocal parts) in that the start is quiet and the rest of the song is heavy but the strings can still be heard over the guitars. The words are just about some freaky stuff and how his heart burns.
AHHHH, MEIN HERZ BRENNT!!!
Track 2: Links 2 3 4 (left 2 3 4)
Starts with marching footsteps and a great quitar riff. A very heavy song that, even though it is in German, you can tell is about the army. Great crowd song.
Track 3: Sonne (Sun)
Starts with a count up to 9 in german, then "out" and heavy guitar riff. The song is actually about the sun, and the counting can be heard in the chorus (I think he might be counting the planets). There is an odd synth voice near the end thats sounds good, but some of the vocal parts sound a bit off. Not the best, but ok none the less.
Track 4: Ich Will (I want)
Of all the songs on the album, this is the most repeditive. Every line starts with "Ich Will" except some of the chorus. Probably one of the lesser tracks on the album.
"Did someone say german gay porn?"
Track 5: Feuer Fri! (fire)
Pretty cool 'cause he says "BANG! BANG!" in the chorus. But, if you dont find that amusing, this is only an ok song.
Track 6: Mutter (mother)
The title track of the album and one of the best too. Its quite an emotional song about test-tube babies looking for their mothers. Some of the words, when translated into english, are rather odd, eg. "I was not allowed to lick any nipples" and "An eel lives in her lungs". However, I do love this song.
Track 7: Spieluhr (music box)
An exalent song with a great processed voice in the chorus that works so well with the song. Not much else to say about this one, its just a great song.
Track 8: Zwitter (hermaphrodite)
If you didnt know that he was repeating the word hermaphrodite in the chorus, you wouldnt be able to see the funny side to this song. Otherwise, it's ok, but the voice parts can be a bit annoying.
"I'm sorry, who did you call a gimp?"
Track 9: Rein Raus (in out)
A great song about sex. The words, when translated, are some of the best on the subject: "I am the rider, You are the hourse, I climb on, We ride off", "I must go now to the other horses, They also want to be ridden" and, of course, "in out". However, like "Zwitter", if you didnt know what the words ment, would wouldnt be able to appreciate it fully, but its not a bad song.
Track 10: Adios (goodbye)
Heavy, but with a quiet middle part. Not much else, but rather good.
Track 11: Nebel (mist)
The last track, and the one with the least distortion. Its a great song and is quite eerie, with airy synth parts, strings and a good chord progression. Like "Mutter" it is rather emmotional, but its mellow, unlike "Mutter" which is angry. Great song to end the album to.
4 Dave's!
Great album, but a bit repeditive in the sound of each track. Never the less, this is one of my favourite albums if Im in a heavy, industrial mood. Hence the 4 Daves.
"SHIT!" Saddly, he forgot to put on deorderant that day, and the entire audience suffocated. "Hang on. I'm not fucking plugged in!"
LOOK, ITS RAMMSTEIN!
