The Ranks

by Dave Deal

Gonna sit here and watch the new sun rise
Ain’t wasting my time crying over you
You’re not gonna get the best of me
Since you didn’t want the rest of me
Gonna find me someone new
Searching for something to do
But there’s no one I want to talk to
Feeling sorry for myself
So, I reconstruct my walls
No one makes any sense at all
None of the time
Back in the ranks again

Back in the ranks again; Take a number
Back in the ranks again; I’m out numbered
Looking for that certain someone
But until then
Back in the ranks again

We had some good times, you’re right about that
But the bad are so easy to remember
I hang up every time I call
Pumping twenty grain alcohol
I guess love’s made me your prisoner
Every day is like the day before
I’m my own executioner
Self-confidence at an all time low
Someone, please, knock down these walls
Brunette, redhead, blonde; short or tall
Anytime, back in the ranks again
But I’ll come marching

Out of the ranks again; reached my number
Out of the ranks again; I’ve recovered
I found you, my certain some one
My number 10
Out of the ranks again
You were standing in front of me; I didn’t even see you at all
You were hinting around to me; I didn’t even listen
You’ve always been so good; how come I didn’t notice you
