>On Friday July 27, the Royal Commission on Genetic Modification will
deliver its report to the Government. The Government will then have just
one month to decide whether we become a GE-Free (environment) nation or
whether genetically engineered organisms are released into our environment
and their introduction into the food chain continues.

· There's a photo of Nandor Tanczos* (one of 2 Auckland Green MPs):

speaking to the rally, at:

· My wife and I are in the photo, but not recognisable; I'm behind Nandor's
legs (he's standing on the Town Hall railing), holding a placard on my head
- you can see my orange-sweatered right arm (and my beard) - and my wife
would be easily visible but for the shadow my poster cast on her. Hers, on
a stick, reads: "GE FREE NEW ZEALAND".

For bedrooms and hallways everywhere this Nandor skateboarding poster is to
promote electoral enrollment in advance of the local body elections.

· For those who are downhearted by all the negative news on PF, start
making plans to settle in NZ; several speakers pointed out that we're still
small enough to have a real influence on our politicians, such as The
Greens succeeding in persuading the government to actually _have_ a Royal
Commission on Genetic Modification:
http://www.greens.org.nz/about/achievements2000.htm
http://www.gmcommission.govt.nz/media/14May01_time_extension.html
· We'll see Monday (Sunday evening US time) what their conclusions are.
_I'm_ interested in whether they've taken my advice! In my June PF post:
http://csf.colorado.edu/mail/pfvs/2001II/msg02405.html
I said:
“... my submission to The Commission.
· I gave it in a letter to Positive Futures last October 30:
http://csf.colorado.edu/mail/pfvs/2000/msg05439.html
· and the main part is obtainable (a Word .doc) from the Royal Commission:
http://www.gmcommission.govt.nz/publications/NIP_submission.html ;
- - - mine is:
http://www.gmcommission.govt.nz/NIP/MacClement%20David%20.doc
· The Commission received two types of submission, general public:
http://www.gmcommission.govt.nz/publications/search.asp
and cross-examinable. On the Public page they start by saying:
"More than 10,000 written submissions from the general public were
received by the closing date of 5.00pm, 1 December 2000. These submissions,
along with the information gathered at Formal Hearings, Public Meetings,
Hui and the Youth Forum, are being considered by the Commission in its
deliberations.
The submissions are available here by author's surname or organisation's
name. Due to the numbers involved, the submissions [were] placed on this
website in stages." The later submissions were made available in PDF.
· I believe their Report is to be presented to the government (and made
public) next month (July).
· A new CSF archive of Positive Futures posts will be started on July 1, so
I will probably re-post the above URLs in about a month.”
