** I think up most of my ideas myself - no need for books and periodicals.
Even while I was a (Physics) teacher (in the schools my children attended),
I was much more aware of issues and important current events than most
other teachers. For example, within a day or two, I started commenting on
the Tiananmen Square massacre, and put up memento-mori photocopies (a
bicycle crushed under tank-treads) around the school on the 4th of each
month after June 1989.
** Homeschooling is more of an extremist activity in New Zealand, since
the ordinary State schools do a good job (better than in the USA, in
general), except for many Maori children. So a bigger fraction of the tiny
number of homeschooling families /here/ are probably run by "control freak"
or paranoid parents. Still a minority, though.
